Sorry for the schadenfreude, but every jackass who supported the corrupt and incompetent Vince Gray over Mayor Fenty deserves every bit of personal embarrassment as he resigns in disgrace. Can we get Fenty back? …maybe Michelle Rhee, too? (Here’s hoping!)
Someone just put this on face place. In addition to being highly ironic (Rhee, I consider to be one of the most egregious, self-promoting frauds who has stolen millions for the city, not to mention every other state her monorail sales pitch has found a buyer), it really shows the newest and strongest rift in the Democratic party today. the side supporting Rhee and her crap is mostly wealthy and white, anti-union, and anti- basically the old FDR coalition.
They are DYING to vote for Republicans who will cut their taxes and bash people on welfare, but don’t, mostly because of gay rights and possibly the environment.
the racial undertones are almost to a fever pitch. Several friends have expressed their impatience with the “other” denizens of the city and their near constant incompetence in contributions (either economically or socially) to the increasing “improvement” to the city, and their addition to “corruption.”
I assume this is a common feature in other urban settings. Which way would Illinois go if the top-of-the-ticket candidate were able to capture white voters in Chicago? I’m just assuming the Jesse Jackson Jr. votes are pretty popular there right now (because a white guy has never gone to jail in Illinois for corruption).
Your move Republicans.
I obviously agree with all of this but this is sort of a very old rift! It’s fun in New York because Bloomberg has this hilarious electoral coalition of a) racist white/white-ethnic New York Post conservatives (Staten Island) and b) rich white New York Times readers who think they’re super liberal (Manhattan). Anyway Michelle Rhee should be in jail.
